Winners Announced for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2019

Over 180 traditional music, song and dance competitions took place in Drogheda.

The results of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2019, which was held in Drogheda on 11–18 August, have been announced.

There were over 180 competitions on a range of traditional instruments; in set, ceili and sean-nós dancing; singing in Irish and English; tune writing; duets, trios and ceili bands, and across all age groups. Winners were from Ireland, the UK and the USA.

The winner of the senior fiddle competition was Dylan Carlos from Roscommon, Ciarán Mac Gearailt from Kildare won the senior flute competition, while Rúairí Howell from County Down took first place in the senior uilleann pipes competition. 

Banna Ceoil Chnoc na Gaoithe from Tulla in County Clare won the senior ceili band competition, and Ceoltóirí Tireragh from Sligo won the music group competition.

Fionnuala Donlon from Louth won the senior harp competition, Seámus Ó Thiarnáin from Mayo won button accordion, and Aileen de Búrca, also from Mayo, won the senior concertina competition. Fergal Bradley from Donegal was the winner of the senior piano accordion competition and Shane Scanlon from Cork won the senior banjo competition.

Chris Maguire, Jack Boyle and Orlaith McAuliffe (TG4 Young Traditional Musician of the Year in 2016) from London won the senior Trios competition.

First place for the senior sean-nós singing competition went to Kathryn Ní Mhaolán and the winner of the English-language singing competition was Julie-Ann McCaffrey.

The winner of the senior men’s sean-nós singing competition was Proinnsias Ó Cathasaigh, while Kevin Elam from Washington DC was winner of the senior English-language singing.
