Young Composers' Competition Open for Submissions

West Cork Chamber Music Festival seeking submissions of new compositions by 17 March.

West Cork Chamber Music Festival is now accepting submissions for its Young Composers’ Competition, which is open to Irish composers and composers resident in Ireland under the age of 35.

The deadline for submitting is Tuesday 17 March. Works must be written for string quartet and be between five and eight minutes in length. The quartet should not have been performed in concert prior to the festival. The competition will be judged anonymously and the adjudicator is composer Deirdre Gribbin.

Four winning compositions will be selected and the composers will each receive a cash prize of €750, three nights accommodation at the festival, two public performances of their work by a conservatoire quartet at the festival, and an opportunity to discuss the work with the competition judge.

Last year’s winners were Timothy Ethan Doyle, inti figgis-vizueta, Robin Haigh and James May.
