The Kronos Quartet: Under 30 project was begun to mark the ensemble’s own thirtieth anniversary, and is now in its fourth year. Run in conjunction with Carnegie Hall, Cal Performances at University of California, and Montalvo Arts Centre, the programme has in the past led to commissions by Alexandra du Bois (2003), Felipe Perez Santiago (2004), Dan Visconti (2006) and Aviya Kopelman (2007).

Applications from composers (under the age of thirty as of 16 November 2012) will be reviewed by Kronos themselves, and are required to submit a variety of works regardless of instrumentation at each round of the program. The selected composer will then be commissioned to write a new work for the quartet, which will premiere in Spring 2014 as part of Kronos’ fortieth anniversary season, including joining the quartet on tour and for a residency in San Francisco.

The deadline for applications is 16 November 2012, and application forms can be downloaded here.
