Maya Homburger and Barry Guy Curate Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope, the eclectic monthly night of music held at the Odessa Club, Dublin, will be guest curated by the violinist Maya Homburger and the bassist Barry Guy in December. The event, taking place on Wednesday, 5 December, at 8.30pm, will feature performances from the curators themselves, who lived in Ireland for many years, as well a number of their friends and regular collaborators.

Siobhán Armstrong will perform a set of Irish love songs and laments from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries on her replica of the medieval Trinity College harp. The poet Paul Perry will read his poetry interspersed by short interludes by Homburger and Guy. Benjamin Dwyer will play a number of his own études for guitar as well as music by Manuel de Falla.

Homburger will play Barry Guy’s own work Ceremony, for baroque violin and seven prerecorded tracks, described as ‘a series of “meditations” that prescribe various levels of phrase hierarchy to be layered on the seven tape tracks, as well as material for the live performance.’ Guy will also perform an improvised set with the drummer Lucas Niggli to close the night.
