The Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition's gala concert of opera at Dublin Castle with Cara O'Sullivan takes place on 21 April.

The Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition, which was inugurated in 1992 and will return for its seventh competition in 2013, is presenting a gala concert of opera arias on Saturday 21 April at Dublin Castle, in association with the Friends of the Vocal Arts in Ireland. Dr. Veronica Dunne hosts the gala.

Cara O’Sullivan wilI sing arias by Handel, Puccini, Gounod and Verdi, with mezzo-soprano Rachel Kelly, soprano Jennifer Davis, tenor Patrick Hyland and baritone Padraic Rowan, with pianist Brenda Hurley, also appearing. Additional arias and songs to be performed come from composers such as Mozart, Bizet and Gershwin. Irish soprano Celine Byrne was originally supposed to perform in the gala concert, but will instead be assuming the lead role of Mimi in Puccini’s La Bohème at Covent Garden in London as a late replacement for German soprano Anja Harteros, who had to pull out due to personal reasons.
