Roger Doyle's New Opera at Kilkenny Arts Festival

Today at the Kilkenny Arts Festival, at 1pm and 6pm, composer Roger Doyle presents a preview of the opening act of his very first opera, The Death by Fire of Giordano Bruno, about the Renaissance philosopher and heretic.

Featuring six singers, four acoustic instrumentalists (Niwel Tsumbu, Vivienne Long, Conor Linehan and Nick Roth), with a libretto from Jocelyn Clarke and directed by Eric Fraad (also of Heresy Records), The Death by Fire of Giordano Bruno will subsequently be performed at the Mermaid Theatre and Dublin Theatre Festival.

Today’s premiere will be accompanied by a selection of other pieces by Doyle.
