Senegal Meets Donegal

Fidil – the Donegal fiddle trio of Ciarán Ó Maonaigh, Aidan O’Donnell and Damien McGeehan – and Senegalese musicians Solo Cissokho (kora) and Seckou Keita (drum) will together undertake a six-date tour of Ireland in October.

The musicians began their collaboration in 2011 when they were asked to perform together at the Earagail Arts festival in Donegal. They subsequently performed at Celtic Connections in Glasgow, the National Concert Hall in Dublin and the Kilkenny Arts Festival.

Solo Cissokho is a master kora player, a seventh generation griot and a former winner of the BBC World Music Prize. He now lives in Norway. Nottingham-based Seckou Keita also plays kora and is regarded as an innovator on the instrument, having developed original tunings.

The tour will cover Limerick, Bray, Derry, Donegal, Donegal, Dublin and Waterford.

Watch a performance below from the Kilkenny Arts Festival last year.
