WholeWorldBand App Exhibited at the Music Show

The app allows musicians to create multi-tracked recordings from scratch, or to contribute new layers to recordings by well-known artists.

A new collaborative music app for the iPhone and iPad will be showcased at the Music Show, an industry fair taking place at the RDS, Dublin, on 25 and 26 February. The app, which will be available free from the iTunes App store from Spring 2012, allows musicians to create multi-tracked recordings from scratch, or to contribute new layers to recordings by well-known artists.

At the Music Show, participants will able to play along to recordings by Gemma Hayes, Liam Ó Maonlaí and Cathy Davey. Hayes has contributed an acoustic version of her song ‘Keep Running’ and said she would like people to add ‘whatever they want’ with the WholeWorldBand app. ‘It’s very rhythm based and I would love them to have fun adding percussion, drums and really pushing the rhythm part of it,’ she said.

The app was developed by Kevin Godley (formerly of the bands 10CC and Godley & Creme) and Andy Wood (developer of the online gallery, Hypergallery). Musicians will be able to earn revenue when songs are downloaded or shared, say the developers.
