RTÉ, Ireland’s Public Service Media Organisation, operates six integrated Business Divisions (IBDs); Television, Radio, News and Current Affairs, Orchestras, Quartet & Choirs, Digital and 2rn, together with a Corporate Centre.
 
RTÉ Television has two full-time vacancies for experienced Researchers and wishes to form a panel from which future vacancies may be filled.   Researchers work across the various genres in television production including factual, documentaries and arts, young people’s, entertainment, daytime and lifestyle, drama, comedy and music, and religious programmes and complimentary online.
 
As part of the programme team, the Researcher will make his/her creative contribution to the formulation and development of the relevant programme, source contacts and contributors and collect, verify and prepare information for broadcast within the BAI journalistic and editorial guidelines.
 
Main responsibilities of the role include:
– Originating and developing strong story and content ideas
– Authoritative research of the subject matter including a critical and editorial assessment of the quality and accuracy of information
– Assessing the quality and suitability of contributors in a way which demonstrates an insight into the programme requirement
– Preparation of briefs, publicity, scripts,  pre-broadcast and ancillary platform material including online and social media.
 
We are looking for individuals who have a creative mindset, are passionate about ideas and have a keen eye for identifying stories and characters that make for appealing television.
 
Applicants should possess the following:
– Significant research experience in TV, Online, Print, Radio  or Digital
– Have a proven track record in identifying a strong story/contributor/guest and have the ability to conceptualise ideas
– A relevant third level qualification
– A demonstrable  ability to utilise all available research tools
– Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory requirements
– Editorial and journalistic awareness
 
The successful candidates will possess strong persuasive skills, be resilient and have the ability to work in a fast paced, pressurised environment.   Researchers working on programmes that involve young people must possess a thorough understanding of Child Protection issues.
 
The ability to self-shoot is an advantage
 
As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will be required to attend a written assessment.
 
Applicants are invited to submit Curriculum Vitae, together with a covering letter, and one A4 page setting out a programme idea for prime time TV.
 
Contract Type:   1 year Fixed Term
