The Gregory Walkers: A Walk around the Grounds

Monday, 2 September 2013, 8.00pm

‘A Walk around the Grounds’

‘Grounds’ [tunes based on recurring chord sequences] have been fundamental to composition and improvisation throughout recorded musical history – ‘Gregory Walker’ was a name given one such 16th-century dance, the Passemezzo Moderno. This programme features music from the 16th, 17th & 18th centuries based on grounds from Ireland, Europe and the New World: Folías, Chaconnes, Canarios and more.
