Up Close with Music

Up Close with Music

Sunday, 23 February 2014, 2.30pm

Concorde continue their highly successful series of concerts at the RHA Gallery in Dublin on Sunday 23 February.  Up Close with Music takes place on the last Sunday of each month, from January to April, and features new Irish music in an international context.  The February 23 event features world premieres from Ryan Molloy, lecturer at NUI Maynooth, and from Katrina Burton, lecturer at Edinburgh Napier University.  Works by Irish composers Ian Wilson, Rhona Clarke and Alyson Barber will also be performed and all five composers will join the five musicians of Concorde on the day.  Following an international call for scores, works by Polish composer Maciej Zielinski and Turkar Gasimzada from Azerbaijan will be premiered in Ireland.  Audience members are invited to meet the musicians and share their response to the music between and after the two performances at 2.30 and 3.45. Admission is free.

Concorde musicians for the February concert are: Madeleine Staunton, flutes; Paul Roe, clarinets; Elaine Clark, violin; Martin Johnson, cello; Clare McCague, concert harp.

The COPPA café at the RHA provides snacks and coffees, and the RHA Gallery exhibitions are open from 12 Noon.  Featured artists in February are: Richard Mosse, Michael Farrell, Vera Klute, Paul McKinley and Ciarán Lennon.  Recent acquisitions from the Academy collection are also on display.
