Kirkoskammer ж The Viola ж with Sebastian Adams
Tickets €10/7 at kirkostheviola.eventbrite.ie
Following September’s epic Wilderness Notes collaboration with Experimental Film Society, our chamber music series resumes once again.
Kirkoskammer ж The Viola ж with Sebastian Adams, takes place at the Bewley's Café Theatre, Powerscourt Townhouse Centre, on Wednesday October 11th at 7pm.
In addition to being an accomplished composer and founder of Kirkos, Sebastian is a passionate interpreter of contemporary Irish and international viola music. Kirkoskammer ж The Viola showcases his distinctive approach to solo performance, centering on works that push the expressive envelope of the contemporary viola through the fertile friction between acoustic and electronic sound.
Karlheinz Essl’s Sequitur IVb records and plays back the live viola in contorted forms, creating a ‘house of mirrors’ impression of blurred identity between original and artifact. In Jenn Kirby’s Transition, written for Sebastian, motion-sensing gloves worn by the player manipulate and stretch digital sounds in physical space.
Receiving its world premiere will be Bell Music 3 by Cork composer Tim Doyle, a winner of our Kirkoskammer composition competition. Completed by Benedict Schlepper Connolly’s tranquil Cyan, and music from US composers Tyler Gilmore and Missy Mazzoli, Kirkoskammer ж The Viola offers a sonically unpredictable, expansive and rewarding listening experience.
We’ll be serving complimentary wine (kindly provided by the Royal Irish Academy of Music) from 7pm, and music begins at 7.30pm.
Programme:
Benedict Schlepper Connolly – Cyan
Tyler Gilmore – urgency and sameness and whether other people...
Tim Doyle – Bell Music 3
Karlheinz Essl – Sequitur IVb
Jenn Kirby – Transition
Missy Mazzoli – Tooth and Nail
