3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of Music

Saturday, 25 February 2017, 11.00am

Back by popular demand, the Galway Music Residency in association with Galway City Museum presents another 3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of music. Taking us from spring into summer, this unique set of concerts will feature the Galway ConTempo Quartet and some of Ireland’s best young musicians.

On the 25th February, 25th March and 6th May at 11am, in the surrounds of the stunning Galway City Museum, the audience will experience an eclectic mix of classical, contemporary and Irish traditional music. From Spanish flavours to sean nós, from contemporary trad to percussive feats, this series is set to captivate and delight.

The series’ first concert on Saturday 25th February will feature Galway’s own ConTempo Quartet and emerging contemporary artist Marcella Barz who will perform a varied repertoire for the magnificent bass clarinet. The clarinet theme continues with contemporary trad duo Matthew Berrill (clarinet/bass clarinet) and Jack Talty (concertina) joined by special guest Melanie Higgins (cello). This talented group will perform music from the Irish tradition, imagined in this novel combination of three instruments that are rarely heard together.

Supported by The Arts Council, NUI Galway and Galway City and County Councils, admission to these events is free, open to all, family friendly and early arrival is recommended. Donations are welcome. For further information, visit www.thegalwaymusicresidency.ie or call 091586706.
