Crash Ensemble, Niall Vallely (concertina), Dave Flynn (electric guitar), Niwel Tsumbu (guitar)

Thursday, 20 March 2014, 8.00pm

Be the first to hear two brand new works from Irish composers Niall Vallely and David Flynn.  Alongside the giant of American new music Michael Gordon and the brightest young guy on the block, Nico Muhly.

Dismissing the parameters of genre and taking a global view, Vallely’s work draws on his Irish traditional music background and Flynn has taken inspiration from the complex interlocking guitar techniques of Congolese soukous music. Gordon (the co-founder and co-artistic director of New York’s legendary music collective Bang on a Can) projects “the fury of punk rock, the nervous brilliance of free jazz and the intransigence of classical modernism.” Alex Ross, The New Yorker While Muhly, a tireless cross-form collaborator (Antony and the Johnsons, Bjork and Jonsi from Sigur Rós, the Bedroom Community, soundtrack  to Best Picture nominee The Reader, 2008), is one of the most talked-about musicians of his generation.

Joining Crash Ensemble on stage are composers Vallely  (concertina) and Flynn (electric guitar) and Congolese guitarist Niwel Tsumbu.
