Elver Gleams - A Celebration of the Music of Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin
Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, celebrated composer and performer, collaborates with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra for the first time in Elver Gleams on Friday, 8 September, 7.30 pm in the National Concert Hall. The concert is conducted by Sinéad Hayes.
A stellar group of musicians join Mícheál and the RTÉ NSO for this Elver Gleams concert: sean-nós singer, Iarla Ó Lionáird; saxophonist Kenneth Edge; traditional percussionist Mel Mercier; harmonica player, Brendan Power from New Zealand, and uilleann piper and Young Musician of the Year, Pádraic Keane.
Concert highlights include two new orchestral pieces with Iarla Ó Lionáird and the full orchestra (Port na bPúcaí and An Buachaill Caol Dubh), and a new re-imagining of Oileán/Island featuring for the first time, Brendan Power on harmonica.
Other pieces are Termon for pipes and orchestra (originally composed to commemorate 10th anniversary of 9/11 in New York), Gellan with full orchestra, and Crispy and So Merrily Dance, showcase pieces for piano and orchestra.
