Chanson à danser @ Galway Early Music Festival 2019
Performers Obsidienne et Compagnie with dancers Bernadette Jacquet and Stéphane Queant.
During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, dancing was an integral part of social life, just like music: indeed these two art forms are deeply connected. Whether courtly or popular, dancing featured in all the various celebrations and gatherings which took place throughout the year.
The Obsidienne Ensemble invites the audience to experience songs and the dances, from the “virelais” composed by Guillaume de Machaut (the great 14th-century poet and musician) to the world of the Bayeux Manuscript, the most popular manuscript from the early Renaissance. Obsidienne sings and dances back to life all the joy of this enchanting repertoire.
