Fall 2018 Emerging Musical Artist in Residence (Jazz or Contemporary Music Artist)

The Penn State Altoona Integrative Arts program invites applications for its Fall 2018 Emerging Musical Artist in Residence.

The programme seeks an emerging Jazz or Contemporary Music artist who will teach Music 007 – The History of Jazz.

The course is a 3 credit course and typically meets twice a week for 75 minutes.

The residency is designed to offer an emerging artist substantial time to develop his/her jazz or contemporary music performance and teaching skills and offers a salary of $10,000.

In addition to the aforementioned teaching duties, the artist would provide: at least one solo or group concert performance in his/her performance area and serve as a resource to our Integrative Art majors, students, and community while in residence.

The artist will typically live in the Altoona area during residency for the Fall 2018 semester (August 20 – December 7, 2018). Benefits and housing are not included.

The Emerging Artist will present a promising record of scholarship, experience, creativity, and performance ability. Selection will be based on the quality of the work submitted as determined by the search committee.

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with supported evidence of professional performance experience, earned within the past three years, is required.

A Master’s degree with university-level teaching experience and/or professional experience is preferred. Applications must consist of a cover letter, portfolio, curriculum vitae (including resume, teaching experience, professional training, and the names and contact information of three references), and an artistic statement (no more than one page in length).
