Lunchtime with ConTempo: May

Tuesday, 1 May 2018, 1.10pm

The Galway Music Residency’s Lunchtimes with ConTempo series continues on Tuesday 1st May at 1:10pm. The current lunchtime series, entitled ‘Beethoven – Rage & Mystery’ focusing on the mature quartets by Beethoven, can be enjoyed on the first Tuesday of every month September-June (excluding January) at St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church.

In this upcoming concert, the ConTempo Quartet will perform Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 131, which was completed in 1826. This beautiful work was reportedly Beethoven’s favourite of his late quartets and is considered his most elusive work musically. He dedicated the piece to Baron Joseph von Stutterheim as a gesture of thanks for taking Beethoven’s nephew, Karl, into the army after a failed suicide attempt.

Supported by NUI Galway (Education Partner), Arts Council, GMIT, Galway City and County Councils, and German Embassy, admission to this event is free, open to all and early arrival is recommended.
