Bassist – Composer David Redmond Creates Ambitious Debut Album Featuring Compelling Original Compositions. 

“Roots” released on July on Fresh Sound New Talent (Barcelona) Record Label.

Irish jazz double bassist David Redmond is best known for his collaborations with renowned Irish and International jazz groups, and musicians including the acclaimed American pianist Bill Carrothers as part of the Kevin Brady Trio and the  UK jazz vocalist Ian Shaw. 

In Ireland he is a member of both the Phil Ware trio and the Tommy Halferty Trio. He is also a member of Yurodny (one of Ireland’s leading World Music groups).

Since the early 2000’s Irish bassist – composer, David Redmond has been one of the most consistently sought after bass players on the scene. Redmond surrounds himself with some of contemporary jazz’s acclaimed musicians. He has regularly played with visiting artists such as Bob Dorough, Keith Copeland, Van Morrison, Jesse van Ruler, Bobby Wellins, Dave Liebman, Jason Rigby, Guy Barker, Ian Shaw, Jacqui Dankworth, Scott Hamilton and Louis Stewart. 

Redmond has appeared on over 15 albums of established Irish and International artists.  

The dynamic of “Roots” stems from past collaborations with leading musicians who also count as Redmond’s colleagues and friends. It is also worth noting Bill Carrother’s major contribution evident in his potent piano work. The compostional elements in this album are backed up by Jason Rigby’s weaving sax lines and Kevin Brady’s intuitive percussive flexibility.  

This Irish/US collaboration was recorded in Ireland in the Summer of 2012 and subsequently produced in Munich, Germany. 

Redmond has performed in Mexico at the Euro jazz festival, and as part of the Bill Carrothers Trio at the Azores Jazz Festival. Glasgow Jazz festival, Dubai Jazz Festival, the Abu Dhabi Jazz FestivalBrecon Jazz Festival and the Cork Jazz Festival.  Other venues he has played at include the famous London jazz club Ronnie Scotts as part of the Ian Shaw septet (UK’s leading male jazz vocalist) and throughout Europe; most notably in Germany, France, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Wales, U.S, Hungry, Crete, U.K.  Most recently Redmond has toured China with The Kevin Brady Trio. 

This is Redmond’s inaugural album featuring leading jazz musicians Jason Rigby (sax) Bill Carrothers (Piano) and Kevin Brady (drums). Released on the leading jazz label ‘Fresh Sound New Talent’. “Roots” is his debut album featuring Redmond’s compelling and original compositions.
