State Of Exception

State Of Exception

Sunday, 25 March 2018, 8.00pm

Choreographer and dance artist Catherine Young brings her latest dance work to the Siamsa stage.

“The camp is the space that is opened when the state of exception begins to become the rule.” (Giorgio Agamben)

Following the success of Woman Stood Regardless (2014), Welcoming the Stranger (2016) and It takes a Village (2017), Catherine Young Dance returns to Siamsa with a powerful new dance work inspired by her time working with asylum seekers and refugees in Ireland and coloured also by her recent visit to the Middle East.

This highly physical dance work, set to thundering percussion, text and voice, features a cast of outstanding Irish and international performers and explores the world of ‘the other’ in an attempt to understand and tear down the walls and borders that divide.

Supported by: The Arts Council, Shawbrook, Backstage Theatre, Longford County Council, Kerry County Council, Dance Limerick, Project Arts Centre, Siamsa Tíre, and Firkin Crane.

Catherine Young Dance has been making & touring work to critical acclaim since 2011 and has presented work at the Dublin Dance Festival, Dublin Fringe Festival, Big Bang Festival, Feile Failte, Tocht Dance Festival and the Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival. CYD creates powerful, percussive, physical, primal work that shows all shades of the human condition – its grit, edge, truth, honesty and beauty.

Age suitability 12+
