The Lecturer in Music post is based in the School of Arts at Oxford Brookes University. The University intends to appoint a music historian to a Lectureship in Music, full time, for a period of three years to cover the teaching and administrative duties of a member of staff who will be on research leave.

As Lecturer in Music you will be responsible for:

  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate musicology modules, as well as supervising undergraduate dissertations
  • Supporting the Programme Lead in Music and undertaking associated administrative duties
  • Producing high-level research 
  • Caring for the pastoral needs of students including counselling, welfare and guidance.

You should have:

  • A Master’s degree and a PhD (or a PhD nearing completion) in Music or a related discipline
  • Experience of teaching in HE at undergraduate and ideally postgraduate level in relevant subjects
  • Administrative experience
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • A developing portfolio of research in music history, with particular expertise in the area of opera.
