Tinariwen
Tinariwen (meaning desert) have been together since 1979, when they were young Touaregs playing music together in the Sahara region of Northern Mali. They gained international popularity with the release of the critically acclaimed ‘Aman Iman’ in 2007 and won the ‘Best World Music Album’ award at the 54th Grammy Awards for their 5th album, ‘Tassili’. Combining Tishoumaren with rock and blues, the Irish Times described their music as “the most rock’n’roll of them all”.
Supporter Carlos Santana says Tinariwen are ‘originators’ while U2’s Bono describes listening to their music “like a breath I can feel”. They come to Ireland as part of their worldwide tour with the launch of their 6th album ‘EMMAAR’.
“One of the more moving music experiences you can find these days”
