Bruckner Symphony No. 4 in E flat major (Romantic)

The 16/17 International Concert Series opens with one of the world’s greatest orchestras, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

This will be their first concert in their RCO meets Europe tour in which they visit 28 EU member states between 2016 and 2018. In each EU country the RCO performs at least one work together with a local youth orchestra (Side by Side). For this concert we are delighted to welcome members of The National Youth Orchestra of Ireland who will have this unique and rare opportunity to perform with this world class orchestra on the National Concert Hall stage, under the baton of Daniele Gatti .

The talented young Argentinian cellist Sol Gabetta will join them as guest soloist for Schumann’s Cello Concerto in A minor. Named Instrumentalist of the Year at the 2013 Echo Klassik Awards for her interpretation of Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto with Berliner Philharmoniker and Lorin Maazel, she also received the award in 2007, 2009 and 2011 for her recordings of Haydn, Mozart and Elgar Cello concerti as well as works by Tchaikovsky and Ginastera.
