€181,350 Awarded to Musicians and Groups to Purchase New Instruments

€61,000 awarded to 13 musicians; €120,350 awarded to 19 groups.

Following the announcement in September that €181,350 was being made available under the 2015 Music Capital Scheme, the recipients of the awards have now been announced.

Thirty-two different groups and musicians were awarded a grant under the scheme, which supports the purchase of musical instruments. Funded by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, and administered by Music Network, this year’s recipients include violinist Mairéad Hickey who was granted €9348 to purchase a violin, Éamonn Galldubh who was awarded €4,382 for uilleann pipes, Tara Connaghan who received €1,900 to purchase a violin bow, and Phoebe White who was awarded €19,000 for a violin.

Included in the music groups are Sing Out With Strings, which is run by the Irish Chamber Orchestra and was awarded €11,292; the Castletown Accordion Orchestra which was granted €19,671; and Patrick’s Youth Pipe Band which received €15,680.

The panellists were Deirdre Moynihan (Music Network), Seamus Crimmins (Arts Council), Mark Armstrong, Liz Doherty, Angela Dorgan, Phil Ware, Laoise Kelly and Jack Lukeman.
