Music Alliance Ireland to Hold Online Public Meeting This Month

Meeting on Wednesday 18 October will take place on Zoom and discuss issues relating to the Irish music sector. All are welcome to attend.

Music Alliance Ireland/Comhaontas Ceoil na hÉireann, the recently formed group of music organisations and companies, will host its next public meeting on 18 October at 2pm. The online meeting will take place on Zoom and all members of the public are welcome to attend.

At the meeting, Caitríona O’Mahony, General Manager of Improvised Music Company, will speak about Music Alliance Ireland and the group’s work. This will be followed by an open discussion on issues facing the music sector in Ireland.

Music Alliance Ireland was formed in 2020 with the aim of establishing a collective voice for the music sector. The current steering group consists of performance groups, concert promoters and resource organisations with a remit across the island and involvement in a variety of musical genres. Members include the Contemporary Music Centre, Crash Ensemble, Diatribe Records, Improvised Music Company, Journal of Music, Kirkos Ensemble, Music Network and Trad Ireland/Traid Éireann. MAI meets several times a year and is open to new members

This month’s meeting follows the group’s last meeting in Galway in July, and previous meetings at New Music Dublin, Quiet Lights festival, TradTalk conference, Clonmel Junction Arts Festival, and Your Roots are Showing folk conference in Monaghan.

The group has been involved in a number of advocacy campaigns since its establishment. It has published various submissions advocating for the music sector, including submissions to the Arts Council’s music policy, the Future of Media Commission, RTÉ Lyric FM, the Dublin City Council Cultural Infrastructural Study, the Dublin City Development Plan, and the Basic Income for the Arts pilot.

Those interested in attending the meeting can register here. For further details on Music Alliance Ireland, visit www.musicallianceireland.ie.
