Irish ensemble the Fidelio Trio are touring South Africa from 26 September—4 October. The group, comprised of Darragh Morgan (violin), Robin Michael (cello) and Mary Dullea (piano), will play seven concerts on the tour, in addition to giving three master classes to composition and performance students at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Stellenbosch Conservatorium and the School of Music, Wits University, respectively.

The group will perform wide-ranging concert programmes, which characteristically seek to shine a light on contemporary Irish composition, whilst also being sensitive to circumstance, with music by South African composers Michael Blake, Robert Fokkens (including a world premiere) and Mokale Koapeng all featuring. The trio will perform the Kevin Volans and Donnacha Dennehy trios which featured on their disc of Irish piano trios released on the British NMC label in 2008, in addition to Micheál Ó Suilleabháin’s Fidelio Unsung. Rounding out the schedules are anniversary composers Percy Grainger and Franz Liszt, and music by Ravel, Schumann and Mozart.

The tour is being supported by Culture Ireland, and will be followed by a mid-October tour of Scotland.
