Words Upside Down: Lifting the Gate

Words Upside Down: Lifting the Gate

Saturday, 25 May 2024, 8.00pm

Poetry, story, and music combine in this bilingual journey through time, memory, and nostalgia.

Wrapped in the warm sounds of the harp and fiddle, audiences will be invited to lift the metaphorical gate and approach the well of memory, accompanied by those in our lives who exist now in memory alone. As we slip between song and story, Irish and English, this mesmerising and immersive event encourages you to embrace vulnerability, humanity, and your own personal history.

Ben MacCaoilte is a bilingual poet writing and performing in both Irish and English. His work explores the power of memory, our connection to place, and the stories that thrive within them. His work has been published in a variety of journals and publications including The Waxed Lemon and Much More Than Words.

Erin Lalor is a musician from Raheen, Co. Laois, who plays fiddle, harp and piano. She has been a member of Portlaoise Comhaltas for over 10 years and has now become a fiddle and harp teacher there. She collaborates with her sister Colleen, a trained lyrical and sean-os singer, at many events around the country.
