Young Northern Irish pianist Cahal Masterson takes to the stage at 7.30pm on November 4th at the Hardiman Hotel with a programme of music themed on childhood. His first audience for this programme will have been earlier in the day, when he will have performed to over 500 school children, live in person as well as via live stream to classrooms all over Galway City and County and beyond.

Following an extensive outreach programme in partnership with Music for Galway, Cahal’s performance will include Schumann’s Scenes from Childhood, Debussy’s Children’s Corner and a selection of Preludes for piano by Messiaen.

A pianist of growing reputation, Cahal Masterson was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Cahal graduated with a Masters in Music Performance from Shenandoah University, USA in May 2019, and prior to this completed an Artist Diploma at The Glenn Gould School in Toronto, Canada. He sat his Bachelor degree in Music Performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin.

Throughout his studies he received numerous scholarships and awards. He now continues mentorship on a part time basis with Professor Christopher Elton, Professor Emeritus of the Royal Academy of Music, London.

Cahal has performed extensively as a soloist, vocal repetiteur and chamber musician throughout Europe, North America, and Suzhou, China. In 2018 he recorded his inaugural album Transition at Sono Luminus Studios in Boyce, Virginia, releasing this debut record with a series of performances in Washington D.C, and Toronto, Canada. Upcoming autumn season performances in Ireland include appearances at Drogheda Classical Music, Belfast Music Society and Music for Galway.

This is a short programme with an early starting time, so should you have a child, grandchild, niece or nephew who couldn’t take part in the outreach, here is the chance to introduce them to some wonderful classical piano music.

Tickets are €20/€18, €6 to children and full-time students, and €18 for MfG Friends.

Booking is online at musicforgalway.ie or by phone 091 705962.
