Music Librarian – BBC Philharmonic (part-time)
The BBC Philharmonic is in search of a Music Librarian for a fixed-term, part-time position (17.5 hours per week) based in MediaCityUK, Salford. This role is essential for sourcing and preparing printed music for performance and production use by the orchestra, managing and cataloguing the collection, and liaising with the BBC’s Central Music Library.
Key Responsibilities:
The main tasks include working alongside the full-time librarian to efficiently source and supply material, managing the orchestra’s collection, and conducting cataloguing duties. The role also involves copying, transcribing, printing, and binding scores and parts; checking materials; sending copies to players and conductors; working with composers, publishers, and arrangers; and maintaining performance history records. The position requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Person Specification:
Candidates should possess proven music knowledge and literacy, detailed interpretation skills of scorings and orchestrations, and the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. Desirable skills include experience in using music notation software, an understanding of copyright legislation pertaining to music, experience in a music library, and the ability to undertake basic arranging and orchestrating tasks.
This position is a 12-month attachment/fixed-term contract, part-time at 17.5 hours per week, with the interview scheduled for Monday 4 December 2023.
