The National Symphony Orchestra is set to take the stage at the Main Stage event on Tuesday, 4th July, 2023 at 1:05 pm. Tickets for the performance are priced at €15 and can be purchased online.

Under the baton of conductor David Brophy, the orchestra will showcase a collection of captivating dance-infused compositions. The concert will feature the talents of former Principal Clarinet, John Finucane, and Principal Bassoon, Greg Crowley.

The performance will commence with Weber’s “Invitation to the Dance,” a piece brimming with exhilarating melodies that will surely captivate the audience’s senses. The Strauss brothers, Johann the younger and Joseph, will present their whimsical “Pizzicato Polka,” characterized by its playful nature, dynamic variations, and suspenseful pauses where strings are daringly plucked.

Richard Strauss’s final instrumental work, the enchanting “Duet Concertino,” will showcase the interplay between the clarinet and bassoon. The composition radiates with a light, melodic liveliness that is sure to charm and engage the audience.

Korngold’s “Straussiana” pays tribute to the renowned Waltz King, Johann Strauss II. This exquisite suite draws inspiration from three lesser-known operettas by the elder composer, encompassing a polka, mazurka, and waltz. The result is a heartfelt homage filled with the sparkling spirit and joy of Vienna.

The performance will conclude with Johann Strauss II’s timeless masterpiece, “By the Beautiful Blue Danube.” This renowned waltz captures the essence of the majestic River Danube, showcasing Strauss’s exceptional mastery of tonal colors and orchestral intricacies.

Presented by Liz Nolan of RTÉ lyric fm, this event promises to be an immersive musical experience. The National Symphony Orchestra’s concert will transport the audience to the enchanting world of classical music, showcasing the talent and artistry of the performers.
