The BBC Symphony Orchestra is hiring a new Director.

The chosen candidate will serve as a strong advocate for the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, representing their interests within the BBC, the wider UK music sector, and internationally. Possessing an expansive artistic and cultural awareness, as well as a broad network, the Director will bring a diverse outlook to the orchestra’s programming. Building upon the successful literary and cross-genre projects that have contributed to the BBC Symphony Orchestra’s identity and reach in concert halls and across BBC networks and platforms, the Director will be committed to delivering a captivating artistic vision and maintaining excellence across all aspects of the ensembles’ work.

Essential qualifications for the role include a profound and extensive knowledge of orchestral and choral music, repertoire, artists, and ensembles. The successful candidate must possess a genuine passion for the BBC’s role in expanding opportunities for audiences to experience these ensembles, both in the UK and internationally. Additionally, a strong commitment to developing talent within the ensembles and the communities they engage with is crucial. Given the challenging financial climate, the Director must have robust commercial credentials to develop revenue streams both domestically and internationally. The ability to envision and drive change, fostering new ways of operating.
