Irish National Opera presents: Elektra
The Greek king Agamemnon has returned from the Trojan War only to meet his death at the hands of his wife and her lover. Now his daughter Elektra plots a terrible revenge…
Based on the famous Greek myth, Richard Strauss’ Elektra is an opera steeped in derangement and blood lust about a family of killers living out the consequences of a divine curse. With searing vocal lines and fiery orchestration, Strauss pushes the boundaries of his art to depict a world of psychological torment where the border between ecstasy and madness is starting to dissolve.
The Castle Yard forms a magnificent setting for Irish National Opera’s fully staged performance, directed by Conall Morrison and starring acclaimed soprano Giselle Allen in the title role.
