The Light House Cinema in Dublin, Ireland, is set to host a series of screenings for the documentary “Brendan Gleeson’s Farewell to Hughes,” directed by Ciarán Ó Maonaigh. The film pays homage to Hughes’s Pub, a celebrated hub of traditional Irish music located behind the Four Courts in Dublin City Centre. For over 35 years, Hughes’s Pub served as a beloved gathering spot for musicians, dancers, singers, and enthusiasts of traditional Irish music until its closure in 2021.

“Brendan Gleeson’s Farewell to Hughes” documents a poignant reunion of musicians, dancers, and singers at the now-closed venue. Filmed over five days in January 2022, the documentary interweaves interviews with archival footage, capturing the essence and impact of Hughes’s Pub on Dublin’s traditional music scene and its cultural heritage.

The Light House Cinema has announced that both Brendan Gleeson, who frequently performed at Hughes’s and found solace in its community, and director Ciarán Ó Maonaigh will be present for Q&A sessions. These sessions are scheduled to follow the 18:15 screening on Sunday, March 3rd in Dublin, and the 18:30 screening on Saturday, March 9th in Pálás, Galway, offering audiences a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the story behind the film.

Screenings of “Brendan Gleeson’s Farewell to Hughes” are set to commence on Monday, March 4th, 2024, with multiple showtimes available throughout the week.
