Gill Books is seeking a skilled Assistant Editor to work under the direction of the Managing Editor, assisting in bringing books from manuscript to print and help authors deliver their stories to a wide readership.

You will help to shape our titles as part of the small team that produces our books. Central to this will be your close collaboration with all departments and an ability to navigate their different priorities.

Your excellent verbal and written communication skills will impress the team, freelancers and industry contacts, and enable you to handle our authors and their work with sensitivity, care and tact at all times.

You will have excellent editorial and proofreading skills, a strong critical eye and be fearless in the face of a semicolon. You will be highly organised, confident in working independently and show good time management.

Your unflappable, can-do attitude will enable you to move from juggling multiple tasks simultaneously to applying the laser focus required for detailed editorial work in a busy environment. You will be happy to take direction, pitch in and know that your effective management of administrative tasks are crucial to a smooth-running department.

Your problem-solving and decision-making skills will enable you to keep a cool head when it comes to bumps in the road.

If you have a third-level qualification, previous editorial experience (preferably in-house) and are proficient in MS Word, we want to hear from you.
