BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra: Shostakovich: Symphony No.5

On Thursday, March 9th, 2023, City Halls will host a performance of Richard Strauss' "Don Quixote, Op 35" and Dmitry Shostakovich's "Symphony No. 5 in D minor" by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Alpesh Chauhan will conduct the orchestra, and Pablo Ferrández will perform on cello alongside Scott Dickinson on viola.

"Don Quixote", a 40-minute composition by Strauss, will open the performance. Pablo Ferrández, who previously appeared this season, will perform on cello, accompanied by Scott Dickinson on viola, in a portrayal of Cervantes's literary hero.

Following a 20-minute interval, the orchestra will perform Shostakovich's "Symphony No. 5 in D minor," which was written in response to Stalin's regime's.

The concert will end around 9:25 pm and is part of the BBC SSO 2022-23 Season and the BBC SSO Glasgow Series 2022/23. Tickets for the performance can be purchased through the provided link, and a subscription can be purchased to save up to 30% on tickets.
