Harbour Stage: Latin Swing Quintet (Venezuela/Ireland)

The Latin Swing Quintet brings together two of Ireland’s finest percussionists with three great Venezuelan salseros creating a unique blend of both hot and cool sounds.

The shimmering vibraphone floating over the pulsating the Latin rhythms creates a sound that is impossible to resist.

The set is a mix of salsa classics and jazzy tracks which harks back to the days of the palladium when the music was for both dancing and listening. But don’t be fooled, there is nothing old fashioned about this band unless of course you think great musicians playing sophisticated dance is out of date!>

The quintet is led by Richard O’Donnell, who has been Section Leader, Principal Percussion with the RTE National Symphony Orchestra since 1997. Previous to this, he was a member of the RTE Concert Orchestra, The National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, and the Basque National Orchestra in San Sebastian, Spain.
