London Youth Folk Ensemble (LYFE) is seeking a new tutor to join their team and lead the ensemble alongside the current co-tutor.

LYFE, the non-auditioned regional youth ensemble of the English Folk Dance and Songs Society, is based at Cecil Sharp House in London. As the ensemble approaches its 10th anniversary in September 2023, they continue to showcase creative arrangements of folk and traditional music from both the UK and abroad. Recent performances have featured a diverse range of musical styles, including English, Irish, Scottish, Colombian, Turkish, Georgian, and Indian traditional tunes, as well as contemporary compositions within the folk genre.

The role of the new tutor will involve working closely with the LYFE team and the current co-tutor, Alexandra Patterson. The position is a freelance, fixed-term role spanning two years, from September 2023 to July 2025, subject to an annual review. The successful candidate will report to the Education Manager.

LYFE aims to recruit up to 25 young individuals annually, aged between 11 and 19 years old (with a maximum of 24 spots reserved for D/deaf and disabled young people). Recruitment takes place through a free Sampler Session. Ideal candidates for the role are young musicians with a strong commitment to and passion for playing folk music. The ensemble welcomes individuals with varying skill levels, ranging from moderate to advanced proficiency.

Applicants interested in the tutor role are required to submit a cover letter as part of their application. The cover letter should outline the reasons for their interest in the position and explain how their knowledge, skills, and experience make them well-suited for the role.
