Jonathan Cape, imprint of Penguin Random House UK, is hiring an Editorial Assistant.

Reporting to the Publishing Director, your primary role will be to assist the team throughout the lifecycle of our books, to provide editorial and administrative support and project manage books through the critical path. Your duties will include checking and collating proofs, researching and clearing image permissions and reading and reporting on submissions, as well as providing excellent author and agent care. In addition, you will create information sheets and cover copy, and use your market knowledge to write articulate and inspiring jacket briefs. You will also contribute to progress meetings, check ebooks, and work closely with colleagues in the editorial department.

You’ll need a proven ability to prioritise work effectively in a fast-moving environment and see projects through from conception to completion. You will be a broad reader and have a sound understanding of the publishing landscape. You will be highly efficient, proactive, with an attention to detail, excellent time management skills and an ability to remain calm and work to deadlines when under pressure.

Excellent communication skills are essential as you will be a key point of contact for our authors and their agents as well as colleagues across Penguin Random House. A bonus would be editorial or proofreading experience, and a good understanding of the social media/digital space.
