Appointments to the Board of the National Museum of Ireland

The Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media invites applications to fill vacancies on the Board of the National Museum of Ireland.

Essential
The skills and attributes outlined below have been prioritised by the NMI’s Board and are viewed as essential to assist in 1) the ultimate delivery of the NMI’s Strategic Plan 2019-2022 and 2) the development of the NMI’s Strategic Plan for 2023-2028. Candidates should possess at least one and, ideally, more of the below mentioned skills/experience areas:

1. Community, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
Candidates must demonstrate in their application evidence of experience at an appropriately senior level in at least one of the following:
• Partnership Building.
• Community Development.
• Experience of advocating for, and implementing of, greater diversity and inclusion in public services nationally or internationally, and ideally in the museum sector.
• Direct experience of participation in or delivering programmes and/or projects with minority groups/new communities/disadvantaged groups.

2. People Management and Leadership
Candidates must demonstrate in their application evidence of experience at an appropriately senior level in at least one of the following:
• Professional project management experience.
• organisational leadership and employee relations matters (financial and risk management; marketing; legal; change management; reputation management and/or public affairs) in a large complex environment.

3. Sustainability
Candidates must demonstrate in their application evidence of experience at an appropriately senior level in at least one of the following:
• Sustainable development practice and principles, specifically in relation to the culture and heritage sectors, and an ability to communicate and advocate for these practices and principles at a senior level.
• An ability to lead in future-proofing museum practices from governance to programming with sustainability principles at the core.
• Implementation of sustainability strategies and policies in cultural and heritage sector.

Desirable
• Previous Board experience.
• Proficiency in the Irish language.
• Experience working or volunteering in cultural heritage.
