Cafe OTO in London is set to host a significant musical event on Sunday, 14 January 2024, at 7:30 PM. The acclaimed musicians Olie Brice (double bass), Rachel Musson (tenor sax), and Mark Sanders (drums) will come together to launch their first record as a trio, titled ‘Immense Blue’, under West Hill Records. This trio, known for their diverse musical backgrounds, has collaborated for years in various formations and is now poised to present their joint venture in the realm of jazz and improvisation.

Olie Brice is a distinguished double bassist, improviser, and composer, with roots in London and Jerusalem and currently residing in Hastings. He leads two groups: a trio with Tom Challenger and Will Glaser, and an octet that includes prominent musicians such as Alex Bonney, Kim Macari, and Rachel Musson. Brice’s work has been notably featured on the double album ‘Fire Hills’. He is also an established free improviser, collaborating with a wide range of musicians, and is a part of several improvising ensembles like Somersaults and The Acrylic Rib. Brice’s involvement in various ensembles and his funding achievements from Arts Council England highlight his significant role in the jazz community.

Rachel Musson, a London-based saxophonist, is actively involved in improvisation projects and regularly collaborates with artists like Mark Sanders, Pat Thomas, and Hannah Marshall. Musson’s discography includes a variety of collaborations, showcasing her versatility and creativity in the jazz and improvisation scene.

Mark Sanders has an extensive career working with a host of renowned musicians and participating in composition-based projects. His collaborations range from duo and quartet formations with Wadada Leo Smith to trios with Charles Gayle. Sanders’ involvement in various ensembles, coupled with his performances at major festivals, underscores his dynamic presence in the world of improvisational jazz.
