“From the 84 Days” tells the de-temporalised and de-spatialised story of an involuntary abidance. In conversation in sound and word, the German filmmaker Philipp Hartmann follows the ensembles PHØNIX16 and Orquesta Experimental de Instrumentos Nativos (OEIN) on the extraordinary journey of their project “Environment”, between autumn 2019 and spring 2020, from the 16 days of artistic research in La Paz, the refuge in Cusco, Peru, enforced by the coup in Bolivia, until the final rehearsals for the opening performance of MaerzMusik 2020 and the 84-day forced quarantine in the Rheinsberg Music Academy during the beginning COVID-19 pandemic: two asylums, two sanctuaries, two continents, two hemispheres, two worlds. The film shows the encounters and joint work of the two ensembles, their rehearsals of works by Karlheinz Stockhausen, John Cage, John Zorn, Bernard Parmegiani and Beatriz Ferreira, as well as their experiments with matters, sounds, formats, acoustics, space.
