Writer in Residence: Dublin City University
Dublin City University, in partnership with The Arts Council, is seeking applications from mid-career and established writers for the role of ‘Writer in Residence’ for the year 2024. Positioned in the School of English, the chosen candidate will have a dual-phase residency. From January to June 2024, the writer will engage with university staff and students, with activities such as workshops, mentoring, and public events. This engagement, not exceeding 4 hours weekly, will be designed collaboratively with the university faculty. From July onwards, the writer’s focus will shift to their individual creative work.
The Writer in Residence will receive a total fee of €30,000, with Dublin City University providing a dedicated workspace and administrative support. This fee will be dispensed by The Arts Council in two instalments.
Eligibility is open to writers of prose fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, and children’s literature who reside in the Republic of Ireland and have a notable publishing track record. Exclusions apply to those who undertook an Arts Council/university residency in 2023.
To apply, candidates must submit a proposal detailing their engagement plan, an artist’s statement, and a comprehensive CV (up to 3 pages) as a single PDF document. Applications should be emailed to Dr Darren Murphy at darren.j.murphy [at] dcu.ie by 5.30 pm on 9 November. Late submissions will not be entertained.
