Writer in Residence: University of Galway
The Arts Council in collaboration with the University of Galway is accepting applications from mid-career and established writers for the Writer in Residence position for 2024. Successful candidates will be placed within the School of English and Creative Arts at University of Galway.
The residency splits into two segments:
From January to June 2024, the writer will work alongside students and staff. Engagements may comprise focused teaching, workshops, public events and other activities. The weekly contact time during this phase is limited to 4 hours, and there’s no requirement to deliver core curriculum. From July 2024, the focus shifts to the writer’s individual practice.
The chosen writer will receive a fee of €30,000, sponsored by the Arts Council (€20,000) and the university (€10,000). The university also offers administrative support and dedicated workspace.
Eligibility Criteria:
– Residency in the Republic of Ireland.
– Proven publishing history in areas including prose fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, and children’s literature. Playwrights and those without publications in these genres are ineligible.
– Mid-career or established status, as defined by having published a full collection, novel or picture book with a recognised publisher.
– Cannot have undertaken an Arts Council/university residency in 2023.
