The Luminosa String Orchestra - Éirí

Sunday, 20 March 2022, 7.30pm

Luminosa Music presents its 2022 concert series:

Éirí - We arise, set forth and commence a new journey; with renewed intentions and with courage and optimism. 2022 sees Luminosa's 'Aistear' bringing our audiences on a musical odyssey, contemplating the centenary of the publication of Joyce’s Odyssey, and how our personal journeys are our own masterpieces.

The curated concert programmes travel through time beginning in 1604 with John Dowland and moving through works that have a particular resonance including that of the revisiting to St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church Galway, for the late John Kinsella’s Nocturne; a work premiered there in 1994. We are particularly looking forward to performing Vivaldi’s Double Cello Concerto with soloists Adrian Mantu and Alona Kliuchka. The highlight of the concert is the significant work by Janaček: his Suite for Strings. The journey wouldn’t be complete without a return home to our own Irish contemporary canon and a work by Deirdre McKay The Meltwater. In September the Odyssey continues with Athrú (Transformation)

The Luminosa String Orchestra is led by Paul Ezergailis and conducted by our Principal Guest Conductor, Sinéad Hayes.
