Proms 2023 at the Royal Albert Hall is set to feature an event titled “Prom 2: Northern Soul” on 15th July 2023. The performance, commencing at 20:00, aims to bring a symphonic edge to the beats that were popular in the English towns across the industrial North and Midlands in the 1960s and 1970s.

Prom 2: Northern Soul was curated by Stuart Maconie, a writer and broadcaster. The event features new orchestral arrangements by Joe Duddell and Fiona Brice. Classic tracks to be performed include ‘You’re Gonna Make Me Love You’, ‘Open the Door to Your Heart’, ‘It Really Hurts Me Girl’, ‘Hold Back the Night’, ‘Time Will Pass You By’ and ‘Just Like the Weather’.

Performers at the event include Vula Malinga, Brendan Reilly, Nick Shirm, Darrell Smith, and Frida Mariama Touray on vocals, with the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Edwin Outwater. The event will be recorded for future broadcast on Radio 6 Music.
