Viva la Vida Festival

Viva la Vida Festival

Friday, 25 October 2019, 8.00pm

Inspired by Frida Kahlo’s famous painting, “Viva la Vida Festival” is an ode to life and joy despite the struggles we all face as humans. We want to showcase Latin American culture and invite all people to experience a taste of our identity and worldview through a positive array of activities that we have planned.

The aim of our festival is to showcase Latin American culture through a series of workshops that will educate the audience, but also engage them in fun and playful activities.

This two-day festival, will take place October 25–26th in Limerick City. This will be the first Latin American Festival to be held in the city.

We’ll connect artists from all over the world to produce opportunities for multicultural exchange, through educational events, community workshops, and live music and dance performances.

The festival will also present two concerts:

On Friday, the 25th of October, with the participation of Paddys de las Pampas, there will be a fusion performance of Irish and Latin American music featuring The Irish World Academy of Music & Dance alumni Paddy Mulcahy and Lenka Fairy.

On Saturday, the 26th of October, there will be a concert programme titled ¡Fandango!, featuring Baroque, Classical, and Traditional music and dance from Spain, Portugal, and Mexico, including a fusion of Hispanic music and Irish dance. Performers include Yonit Kosovske (harpsichord and artistic director of ¡Fandango!), Wolodymyr Smishkewych (voice & percussion), Yovanna Torres Blanco (dance), and, as our guest artist traveling from New York, Carlos Cuestas (historical guitar).
