The Hunt Museum is hiring a Head of Museum Operations.

The job is challenging and varied, ranging from looking after our iconic Georgian building to delivering great visitor experiences for locals and tourists alike. Responsibilities include working with the conservation architect to deliver our five year plan for the building, increasing our retail profitability through innovation in our gift shop, managing the logistic challenges of events large and small, improvement of workflows and work processes and the programming, and delivery of exhibitions that attract new audiences with our Exhibition Advisory Committee and guest curators.

Your primary role is management of people in your team which consists of experts in retail, front of house, exhibition logistics, security and administration and the job has four key areas of responsibility:
– Exhibitions & Events
– Visitor Experience

– Building Management

You will be someone who takes a step by step approach to challenges, but who does understand the big picture. You will be strong on motivating and coaching people and in managing change. Above all you will have strong and proven project management skills in a cultural environment. You do not have to have specific expertise for all the areas as you will be managing a team of professionals, however, a working knowledge of the areas would be beneficial. You will be very good at recognising and encouraging expertise in others, allowing them full responsibility through your delegation. You will have a university degree level education and a postgraduate qualification would be an advantage. Your education can be from any discipline e.g.: economics, humanities, soft sciences, arts, management, business administration but you will be a generalist in your ability to tackle a broad range of subjects and types of people.
