ENO Response

ENO Response

Friday, 20 September 2019, 5.00pm

ENO Response is an opportunity for 10 members of the general public to provide reviews of English National Opera’s 2019/20 Season. This is part of our commitment to developing talent across all areas of the art form.

The reviews submitted for each opera by the 10 participants of the ENO Response scheme will be published on our website and promoted through our social media channels to give the writers exposure and help build their profiles. All reviews will be completely impartial and published unedited. The participants will be provided with one free ticket for each of the 10 productions in our season.

We are collaborating with Lucy Basaba, founder and editor of theatre website Theatre Full Stop, who will provide writing advice and feedback over the course of the season: ‘There is no set formula for what makes an interesting review. The reviewer must be able to capture the mood of that opera very quickly and concisely. They will be able to articulate whether they feel the production is apt for our times and the review will be constructive – do they like the show or not.’

Those who would like to be considered should submit the following to response [at] eno.org:
An introductory covering letter
Example of a review of a recent theatrical production (no more than 800 words)

Closing date for applications is 20 September 2019. Those selected will be asked to submit an independent review of the opera within 48 hours of attending.

Applicants of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to apply to ENO Response – the only criteria is that they must not have been previously published or paid for their writing.
