At the Dublin Fringe Festival 2023, RACHEL BHRAONÁIN will present ‘MOSH’, an exploration of mosh pit culture. Through a blend of dance, gig, and theatre, the performance aims to offer insights into the world of mosh pits and the community built around music and risk.

The production uses live music, real-life interviews, and theatrical elements to investigate the deeper meanings associated with the often-misunderstood mosh pit subculture. It poses questions about the nature of the mosh: Is it a form of dancing or violence? What rules govern it? It also draws unexpected parallels between bacteria and moshers and ponders the motivations behind participating in such activities.

The project has received funding from the Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon and Waterford City & County Council. It has also been supported by ArtLinks, field:arts, Firkin Crane, and Garter Lane Arts Centre. Its initial development took place during the 8th PanPan International Mentorship and at VISUAL Carlow.

Prospective attendees should be aware that ‘MOSH’ will feature loud noises, the use of smoke machines, strobe lighting, and will touch upon topics related to violence.

The visual representation for ‘MOSH’ is credited to photographers Richard Mooney and Luke Carparelli.

A preview of the performance is slated for 13th September at 18:15, priced at €14. Subsequent shows are scheduled from 14th to 17th September at 18:15, with ticket costs being €18 and €16. Additionally, an audio-described performance will be available on 17th September at the same time. The venue for all these events is the Project Arts Centre, specifically the Space Upstairs, with each show having a duration of 60 minutes.
