Managing Director
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) is inviting applications for the role of Managing Director. This permanent, full-time position is open to established senior managers with experience in the music or wider cultural sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for strategic, artistic, and executive leadership, ensuring financial viability and artistic excellence.
Key responsibilities include developing, implementing, and reviewing the Orchestra’s strategy and business plans, under the guidance of the Board of Directors. The position demands a charismatic leader with a proven track record in senior management, ideally within a symphony orchestra or a relevant presenting organisation. In-depth knowledge of music across various genres, expertise in managing complex, multi-year budgets, and a successful history in fundraising and donor relations are essential.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate commercial astuteness, exceptional communication skills, and highly developed financial management capabilities. An established international network amongst artists, agents, presenters, community leaders, and educators in the musical performance field is desirable. The role also requires entrepreneurial skills to develop new performance opportunities and revenue streams.
Applicants should be team builders with an inclusive management style, creative problem-solving abilities, and innovators in developing classical music presentation formats for live and digital platforms.
